OEI would like to congratulate Les Monostory for being one of the six national finalist for Field and Stream's Heroes of Conservation Award<\/a>. Mr. Monostory and the Izaak Walton League of America (Central New York Chapter)<\/a> are partners of the OEI.<\/p>\n

"Izaak Walton League member Les Monostory, of Fayetteville, is one of the six national finalists for Field and Stream’s Heroes of Conservation Award. Monostory will be honored Oct. 6 when the magazine hosts its fifth annual Heroes of Conservation Awards gala in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

Monostory, 67, a retired environmental planner, was initially recognized in Field and Stream’s June issue. The magazine highlighted Monostory’s accomplishments — particularly his efforts as the founder of the Central New York Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America more than 20 years ago, a group in which he is still actively involved.<\/p>\n

The magazine noted: “He also helped start Project Watershed, an outreach program that recruits high school and elementary students to clean up and monitor local lakes and streams. He continues his decades-long effort to clean up Onondaga Lake.”<\/p>\n

Monostory appears again in this month’s issue of Field and Stream, in which the finalists are announced. As a finalist, he will be awarded at least $5,000 by Toyota, which co-sponsors the award. The grand prize winner will also receive a Toyota 4Runner.<\/p>\n
